So I know you may be asking, why the hell would anyone want to uninstall their touchpad? I want to install Windows 8 on my Windows 7 Sony Vaio laptop, however, this requires that I uninstall 'Alps pointing-device for Vaio', which the uninstall says is my TouchPad Driver. When I launch this uninstall, I try to click 'Ok' to uninstall and nothing happens.

I'm normally good at figuring this out, but it's not listed under removable programs in Vista. I've installed the synaptics drivers, which are more.

'Cancel' works fine, but clicking 'Ok' does absolutely nothing no matter how long I wait or how click-happy I get with it.I have tried googling how to manually uninstall this, but to no avail. The only tips I found were to use the uninstall.exe in the actual folder (which I tried), to try through control panel (no, duh), and install it. I've tried installing it, hoping it would fix the uninstall, but no luck.Somebody please help?

I just want my fancy Windows 8. Is that too much for a girl to ask? Alright, so I got it to work after the following steps.1. Install 'Perfect Uninstaller' and use it to uninstall the 'Alps pointing-device for Vaio' software2.

Go to Device Manager, make note of the driver's file locations (under Driver Details), then uninstall the driver from there3. Run CCleaner for both files and registry4. Manually removed the files that I made note of earlier (unless they were in use, I had two files I could not delete)5. Restart the PC6.

Hmmm, what if you try the most recent version of ALPS driver for your Sony Vaio, then use REVO or IOBIT to uninstall instead of CCleaner.Another method is to backup your personal files to external USB hard drive, format the laptop and reinstall either win7 from scratch (Google 'Windows 7 Digital River Direct Links' and choose first link) with just network and chipset drivers installed, or win8 release preview, then put win8 upgrade on top. This is a cleaner approach since there's less residue from old software/drivers. Alright, so I got it to work after the following steps.1.
