UPGRADE FIRMWARE ISSUE - HP LASERJET ENTERPRISE P4010, P4014, P4015, P4515 issue: We are seeing in the field on the HP LaserJet P40xx and P4515 when the device has an accessory (stacker, 3rd paper tray) the device will not start up properly after upgrading the printers engine firmware. I did a 4050DN a couple weeks ago and it took forever too - I'd thought that it was hung up or had failed but eventually it worked.

Printers in the LaserJet P4014 series have a fuser using a foil sleeve to convey heat to the page. Error 50.9 suggests part of the fuser became too hot, this could be thick media changing the heat distribution. It could also be a failed fan, bad ventillation, bad power supply or wrong settings. Thermal distribution is simple if a fuser uses an aluminium heated roller - the conductivity of the metal will allow one thermal sensor (thermistor) to do the job. The powerful heater and thin sleeve of an 'instant-on' fuser behave differently, especially with unusual shaped media are in use. For instance if the printer is working on envelopes or postcards then the edges of the fuser may well get too hot.
That is the kind of thing '50.9' seems designed to detect.Printertechs say this error can be caused by substituting an M600 series fuser (RM1-8395) in the P4014.If that is so HP have reintroduced the issue with the LaserJet 4200 / 4300 / 4250 /4300 where there was an issue with users getting confused about precisely what printer they had, ordering fusers that would physically fit but then getting 50.5 Fuser Error meaning 'wrong fuser'. Furthermore the P4014 doesn't actually give the right error message.
When they devised the P4014 firmware they wouldn't know they were going to introduce a similar series with a wrong fuser that would fit. Question and answer re 50.9 Fuser Error. The response is from the service manual and says check J82 on the DC controller, then replace the High Voltage PCB. HP persist in calling the board that; it does a lot more than high voltage, including fuser control. article on the M600 fuser causing 50.9 in the P4014 series, mentioned above. with another article on 50.9 errors in the CLJ-3600 series printers. Try powering off and reseating, but don't expect it to print for long without a new fuser.
just a generic index - no idea why Google thought it important. A couple of vendors simply advising people to buy a new fuser - it may prove the answer but 50.9 is one of those debatable errors so that isn't very helpful. thread regarding CLJ-3550 getting 50.1 then 50.9 errors possibly due to blowing a triac on the power supply board.
This will innevitably sometimes happen to any printer. No real explanation as to why it then goes to 50.9.
I have an HP LaserJet P4515 printer that had a blank display. I changed out the Formatter but now the display is reading ' Inflate Failure Send RFU Upgrade on USB Device Port'. I Looked on HP'S support web site for the Firmware but it's not there. Called HP and they said they removed it from the site but the guy couldn't really give me any good reason as to why.
Does anyone have a copy of this firmware file that they could send me?Firmware version is 20081215 04.047.2 and the rfu file is ljp4x15fw04.047.2a.rfu. I have searched everywhere. There is a new Firmware version out on HP's Website - 04.049.3 - Plug USB to printer cable into the USB port on rear of the printer. Allow your PC to install the driver (or download the latest drivers from HP) - once done follow the instructions that come with the FW update from HP.

However, in doing this - plan on spending at least 1/2 a day to get this to work. And you'll likely brick your printer in the process. I've been fixing printers for 14+ years and this is the WORST Firmware I've ever updated from HP. Already bricked one machine and almost bricked another because of Crappy FW.
